Edward Dunietz
Edward Dunietz, 88, of Harrisburg, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2010 in the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg. Edward Dunietz was born in Chelm, Poland, one of ten children, nine of whom survived the Holocaust. He came to the United States in 1952, and met his wife, Faye, in 1953 during a visit to Montreal. They were married in 1955, and he became a US Citizen in 1957. Edward studied mechanical engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, and later received his Master's Degree at Penn State Capital Campus. Edward brought his family to Harrisburg in 1964, when he was transferred to York, PA, by his employer, AMF. He finished his career in Harrisburg at AMP, Inc. In late 2007, Edward and Faye moved into the Jewish Residence on the campus of the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg, and in the summer of 2009 he entered the Jewish Home itself. Edward was always committed to his immediate and extended family. He took pride in his children and grandchildren, and fostered in them a love of learning. Always concerned for the welfare of others and in particular of the Jewish community, Edward gave of his time for many causes. He helped Soviet Jewish immigrant families and volunteered for the Chevrah Kadishah, the Jewish burial society. Edward was most notably committed to his synagogue, Chisuk Emuna Congregation. He served as a board member and on the ritual committee. Many current Chisuk Emuna families can recall how he made them feel welcome during their first visits to worship services. He and Faye opened their home to many newcomers to the community. In later life, Edward devoted himself to educating children and adults about the Holocaust. He regularly spoke in schools and at various commemorative events about his own experiences. Surviving are his wife Faye (Shizgal) Dunietz; 2 sons: Irwin S. Dunietz and his wife Susan of Highland Park, NJ, Jerry J. Dunietz and his wife Laurie Minsk of Seattle, WA; a sister Eva Barad of Fort Lee, NJ; and 5 grandchildren: Heidi, Jesse, Ruth, Mariel, and Samuel. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, February 15, 2010 in the Chapel of Chisuk Emuna Cemetery, with Rabbi Ron Muroff officiating. Burial will be in Chisuk Emuna Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the Residence of the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg, 4004 Linglestown Road Harrisburg, with evening Minyan services on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday beginning at 5:15pm and morning Minyan services on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday beginning at 8am and on Sunday morning beginning at 9:15am.
